Well I’ve been watching our brassicas getting bigger and bigger and I can’t put it off any longer. After reading and asking for advice it looks as if I’m going to have to protect our brassicas from a huge onslaught of diners even before it gets to our plate.
It seems like everything wants a nibble: rabbits, cabbage fly, moths, butterflies, pigeons, slugs, snails and thats just the tip of the iceberg. Tonight I have started to get ready. The netting to keep rabbits at bay is waiting to be constructed at the allotment so tonight I have sat and cut out lino circles.
So far 21 have been made. Now I have no objections in making collars for our cabbages but I draw the line to a full suit. Now I just need to get them around the brassicas and then mount a 24 hour guard against all other predators otherwise we will be eating cabbage stuffed rabbits and pigeons.
STOP THE PRESS! What is happening to the weather, I want to get my brassicas in but wind, frost and hail are scuppering me. Scrap the collars I’m now making full rain coats for them.
Cool idea! Sure they’ll look really smart! Like you, waiting to get my plants out on the allotment. Keep checking the weather forecast…..
